No New Clothes

Greetings Fashionistas and Fashion Faux Pauxs! If you are a loyal reader of the blog you know it is only  on a rare occassion that I post fashion and style post. However, I have decided to do something different for the month of November. NeverDateAWriter.com has partnered with Chic Stylez, LLC to bring you the “30 Day Shop Your Closet Challenge”. I attempted to do a similar challenge last year, but had a sudden urge to shop mid month so needless to say I failed that challenge. So here we are and I am attempting 30 days of no new clothes.

How many times have you looked in your closet full of clothes and thought, “I have nothing to wear!”? All the time right? Guess what, you have plenty to wear I promise!! Okay, so this is how it works, you are not allowed to purchased ANY new clothes for the next 30 days. The purpose is to not only save coins but to also allow you to put together looks from your closet that you wouldn’t normally piece together. Join myself and Chic Stylez of Chic Stylez, LLC  as we embark on this wardrobe journey!

Follow us on Instagram: @ChicStylezLLC and @BrendolynMarie for updates. Each night on Instagram, I will post a “Shop Your Closet” inspirational look (see below).  They will be fairly simple and are intended to be used as a reference to kick start your wardrobe planning for the next day or the entire week. The challenge starts November 1st.

My looks will consist of casual looks as Chic Stylez will be posting looks suitable for corporate America.

Out With Old…In With the New

You should always have a plan when you are setting out on shopping trip. I am not a huge fan of lists but it is helpful to know what you have and what you need before making purchases.

In order to figure out what to put on the list you will need to go through your current wardrobe and eliminate a few things. This will provide you with a better idea of what you need to purchase and you may be able to make a few dollars in the process. While sorting through your closet, ask yourself the following questions;

Do I have 15 of these?
Unless you have to wear a uniform to work, you don’t necessarily need 15 pair of black pants. Keep the best looking and or fitting pair, take the others to a consignment shop to sell or donate them to a friend or thrift store.

Does it fit?
We all hold on to pieces that we just know we will fit again….If it doesn’t fit properly, let them go!

Does this piece work for my real life?
We have all been shopping and come across an item that we just had to have because one day we WILL attend a ball and the price on a gown is just too good to leave. It’s been 3 years since said purchase, and you haven’t even been INVITED to a ball let alone thought about attending one since the purchase, it has to go.

After you have gathered everything together and made your list, take those items to Plato’s Closet or Avalon Exchange. These are local buy and sell places here in St. Louis but they have similar exchange depots all over.
